Certificate in Working Safely in Agriculture/Horticulture

This Level 2 qualification has been developed with the full backing of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) who has identified agriculture and horticulture as priority areas for improvement.

It is suitable for those who are working in the Agricultural/Horticultural sectors and for those who are entering the industry. There is one unit that covers the major sources of accidents and ill health and the consequences of safe versus unsafe behaviour.

Certificate in Controlling Risks to Health and Safety in Agriculture/Horticulture

This qualification follows on from the Level 2 Certificate described above and is suitable for those who are working in the agricultural and/or horticultural sector as supervisors, skilled employees, unit managers, union and worker safety representatives or farmers/growers who are self-employed.

The qualification is made up of two units relating to Health and Safety law and the risk assessment process.

Safe Manual Handling – Operator

A practical assessment of basic manual handling tasks includes assessing the load, planning the route, marking hazards, moving loads, mechanical assistance and different types of load, eg bagged, sheets, loose material etc.

Manual Handling – Risk Assessment

This adds to the Safe Manual Handling qualification taking into account the responsibilities of a supervisor. Any manual handling task would be risk assessed and the supervisor would address any appropriate additional requirements before appointing someone to undertake the task.
