Utility Arboriculture

Assesses a range of practical tasks involved with the maintenance of trees within the proximity zone of overhead power lines.

The basic unit covers essential electrical awareness for anyone coming on site during a tree work operation including recognition of electrical components, knowledge of relevant legislation and safe working practice.

Units 1-4 are assessed by observation of practical performance and questioning. They cover the safe use of insulated tools to prune trees with live lines or during a line shut down, receipt of safety documentation from an authorising electricity company and applying earths and LV Bonds to overhead lines prior to work.

Unit 5 covers the survey of a power line requiring tree work and producing the appropriate work instructions. This is assessed by a written paper and the production of the survey and work instruction paperwork.
